Colored Pencil Artist

David Billingsley, an Oregon native, started his artistic career doing commissioned drawings of automobiles, aircraft, and motorcycles. He now specializes in Still Life, Transportation, and Architectural themes in a photorealistic style. He studied oil painting under Eugene Bennett in the late 1950's and as a teenager was influenced by automobile designer R. H. Gurr and later by Maxfield Parrish and Edward Hopper.
David strives to achieve a characteristic of his drawings where the closer you look the more you see. He continues to explore new ways of defining the detail, reflections and realism. The trompe l'oeil genre is very appealing to David because of its challenge and breathtaking results that can be achieved.

David has been juried into the 16th Annual Colored Pencil Society International Exhibition 2008 in Seattle, WA, the 17th Annual Colored Pencil Society International Exhibition 2009 in Atlanta, GA, and the 18th Annual Colored Pencil Society International Exhibition 2010 in Los Gatos, CA where he earned Signature status. He won the CPSA District Chapters Award for Exceptional Achievement 2010 in Los Gatos, CA.
