Sam's hand-built ceramic works and acrylic paintings play with shape and color, often with a dash of whimsy or the surreal.
Her ceramic works include functional pieces, as well as sculptures. Her functional pieces, including teapots, bowls, and vases, incorporate art into everyday objects. Sculptural pieces include heads of people known or imagined. She also creates smaller sculptures that hope to amuse or provoke thought.
Sam's art has been juried into multiple gallery shows, including the Strictly Functional Pottery National Show at the Lancaster (PA) Museum of Art. Her studio, Pickled Heron Studio, is nestled in the trees on Cascade Head above the Salmon River Estuary on the Oregon coast.
