About The Artist: Katt Wamsley
The creative mind is an interesting thing to live with.
From a young age everything was a little different in my mind. Sticks and mud could be formed in to a microphone to sing a concert to my dogs. Cardboard was a magic carpet on a grassy hill and stones were fascinating. Age tampered the imagination a little bit, however that fascination with stones never fully disappeared. In high school I wore a pair of handmade beaded earrings to school and a teacher bought them off my ears before the lunch bell. I was already dreaming of heading to art school but this was the first time I thought I could actually make money doing something creative.
In direct contrast to my tom boy ways, I loved creating beautiful wearable art. I was, and continue to be, self taught and pride myself on doing it my own way. I knew someday I would be creating beauty for a living. The fascination with creating beautiful jewelry has never wavered in 20+ years and is now combined with a vast variety of life and business experiences.
When I started to refocus back to my creativity in 2013 I had a desire for creating things with a little more instant gratification. I wanted to create beautiful works and I didn’t want to spend a week threading beads. This brought me to wire work. With a few pieces of metal and a stone someone felt wasn’t pretty enough for sale, I could create a piece of wearable art that brought out the natural beauty of a stone…in under an hour. I was in love.
I believe stones are meant for people and sometimes we are merely the carrier for them to get to where they are needed. I feel honored to carry along the stones that cross my path. To meet them, greet them and dress them with a layer of wire that brings out their natural power and uniqueness.
